Allcommercial solutions such as jewellery cleaners, etc., are acidbased and will remove minute amounts of the metal and damage thefinish of the coin and potentially start a new chemical reaction.All other methods such as polishing compounds or polishing clothsare abrasive and/or corrosive to varying degrees and will destroythe finish of the coin, and subsequently, any value it may have. Ifyou have a circulated coin of no particular value or numismaticinterest that is covered in heavy patina/rust/crud or similar,and you just want to clean it up to see the detail and make it looknice, you could prpobably try any of the commercially producedjewellery cleaners.
